One Thousand Blessings

About eight years ago, I read a devotional that changed my life. It is what inspired me to start The Blessings Of God Series. The book was One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. In the book, Ann challenges readers to write down 1,000 blessings from God. At first, I thought, ‘Wow, that sounds like a lot.’ Over the years, I have challenged myself to write down three blessings daily during my quiet time.
Sometimes, it is difficult to find three things to be thankful for each day. This can be quite true during times of difficulty or in times of just living a day to day life.
However, one thing that I have learned is that thanking God for His blessings during difficult seasons lifts your spirit in more ways than I can count.
Additionally, when you dwell on His goodness, your spirit is lifted and your faith grows stronger and you heart begins to rest in his care.
Recently, during my quiet time, I had a day where I was really struggling to see the many blessings God has given me.
During this time, I began researching things to be thankful for.
I found a list titled ’60 Things To Be Grateful For’ on TinyBuddha.com.
The very first item on their list was to be thankful for your parents.

The post said, “Your parents, who gave birth to you. Because if there was no them, there would not be you.”
This gentle reminder opened my heart and mind and inspiration began to overcome me. I began writing a prayer thanking God for my parents. I began to wonder who else might be encouraged by this. Someone else could use a little inspiration to start writing down their own blessings. This spark is why I am starting The Blessings Of God Series on my blog. Moreover, I am not sure how often I will post. Still, whenever God inspires me, I will share.
My Prayer
I am grateful to You, Lord, for blessing me with such wonderful parents.
Thank You for their love story and their journey together.
Additionally, Thank You for creating in them a love so strong.
I was raised in a safe home by parents who loved You.
Their faith was abundant.
They spent their lives telling my sisters and me about the love of Christ.
Furthermore, they didn’t just tell us.
My parents showed us by living every day as an example of how to walk with You.
Now that my dad has passed away and lives in Glory with You.
Thank You for a mom who remains so faithful to You.
Each day, she still makes a point to send my sisters and me notes, phone calls, or texts.
She remind us—even in the hard times—to worship You because You are in control of all things.
Thank You for blessing me with a safe home, a warm bed, and two parents who loved me.
I pray that I will take the lessons they taught me and apply them as a parent.
I pray that Jon and I will live in a way that Landon follows our example.
And one day will dedicate his life to You.
May this legacy of love inspire generations of our family to follow You.
This has been one of the most difficult years of my life. Nevertheless, through Christ, I am able to be thankful. With God, all things are possible.
