Fall Watch-list
Now that September has arrived, it’s time to map out my seasonal plan. I search for movies and shows that capture the feel of the season and help me structure viewing choices for the months ahead during this period.
I love picking titles that match the mood, and I break the year down into four main categories: Fall, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and “Ordinary Days” (everything in between). This approach keeps planning organized and helps me avoid aimless watching during the season.
From returning series to classic autumn films, here are the shows and movies topping my list this fall!
Television
Sherlock (2010)
War vet Dr. John Watson moves into a Baker Street flat with the brilliant, yet quirky consulting detective Sherlock Holmes. Their first joint case quickly throws them into an intertwining web of impossible crimes—all secretly manipulated by Holmes’s ruthless arch enemy, Moriarty.

Ghosts (2012)
Freelance journalist Samantha and rising chef Jay spend their inheritance converting a crumbling estate into a B&B, unaware it is haunted by a group of ghosts— Renovations turn to chaos when the ghosts discover Samantha can actually see and hear them.

Being Human (2011)
“Being Human” follows three young roommates—a ghost, a vampire, and a werewolf— who are trying to pass as normal while balancing rent, relationships, and the deadly chaos of their supernatural lives.
(Update: Jon and I have recently stopped watching this show due to increasingly added sexual content in the second season.)

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries
Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries: Phryne Fisher is known for her sharp wit and pearl-handled pistol, which she uses to fight injustice in Melbourne during the 1920s. The glamorous female detective makes her way through the city’s streets and alleyways while she fights crime as part of a larger mission.

Agatha Christie’s Poirot
This is my favorite show I’m currently watching this season.
Agatha Christie’s Poirot: The famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, puts his “little gray cells” to work as he travels the world solving difficult crimes. He relies on his trusty friends, and a limited amount of clues, to get the job done.

Gilmore Girls
Strong willed single mother Lorelai Gilmore balances her strained relationship with her mother, Emily, while raising her book loving daughter, Rory.

Supernatural
This haunting series follows the journeys of Sam and Dean Winchester, two brothers who face an increasingly sinister landscape as they hunt monsters.

The Campion
Gentleman sleuth Albert Campion and his manservant Magersfontein Lugg solve mysteries.

Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None
This is an adaptation of the best-selling crime novel by Agatha Christie. The story follows 10 strangers who receive an unusual invitation to a solitary mansion based remotely off Britain’s coast. Cut off from the outside world, people start to mysteriously die, and the members of the group realize there is a killer among them.

The Doctor Blake Mysteries
Dr Lucien Blake returns home to Australia after 30 years to take over his father’s medical practise. As he deals with his own personal loss and changed by his war experiences, the wry, personable doctor performs his other role as police surgeon.

The Batman
Batman ventures into Gotham City’s underworld when a sadistic killer leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues. As the perpetrator’s plans become clear, he must bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption.

The Count Of Monte Cristo
The story of a man wrongly convicted who comes up with a plan to get revenge on those who had betrayed him.

Harry Potter Series
Harry Potter, a boy who learns he is the orphaned son of two wizards and possesses magical powers of his own. He is brought from his life as an unwanted child to become a student at Hogwarts.

The 39 Steps (1935)
One of the best movies I have watched all year! I absolutely adored it!
While on vacation in London, Richard becomes involved in an international spy ring related to the mysterious “39 steps.” Then he meets an agent who is killed in his apartment. He must hide from the police, who are hunting him for murder, while he tries to stop the evil Professor from sending secrets out of the country.

An Inspector Calls (2015)
A wealthy family. A detective and a suicide. Hidden family secrets. What more could you want from a movie?

The Making Of A Lady (2012)
This story follows an impoverished woman’s path from sensible marriage to immediate danger that she must face.
